A dream opportunity for the hiker-historian: Join our August 19 history hike to Bullitt Fireplace on Squak Mountain—the site of the former Bullitt family cabin and what Harvey Manning called "the greatest act of environmental benevolence in local history."
This hike will be led by IHM executive director Paul Winterstein . You'll be responsible for:
Arriving at the trailhead about 15 minutes early to help with check-in
Accompanying the hike group for the entire time
Signing attendees into and out of the hike
Carrying emergency supplies (ex: a few extra water bottles and first-aid kit)
Rounding up the back of the group to ensure nobody gets lost
Taking photos if possible
Knowledge of Squak Mountain and/or its history is a bonus, but not required. This hike is about 4 miles long with 1,200+ feet of elevation gain, so gauge your abilities thoughtfully before registering. Additional hike details are available on our event page and (roughly equivalent) WTA.org.
