If you love reading out loud and spending time with kids and families, help us establish weekend storytime in the caboose! Once we have established a roster of volunteers, we plan to offer storytime monthly on weekends, or more if it's successful (and as staffing allows).
As a volunteer, you'll be responsible for:
Readying the caboose for guests, including wiping down high-touch surfaces and tidying the desk
Signing guests in as they arrive (on paper or using the Wix app)
Directing children and families to find their seats
Sharing a few minutes of train lore with families (from IHM-prepared notes)
Reading a book (provided by IHM) to children and families
Tidying up the caboose after visitors
Experience with kids and families is a plus but not a requirement.
Unfortunately, our caboose is not accessible to some individuals with mobility impairments. Please make sure you feel comfortable getting up and down its metal staircase regularly if you plan to volunteer for this role.
