IHM is looking for community-minded people who want to make a meaningful difference in preserving and sharing the history of Issaquah and the surrounding area.

Our board of directors provides leadership, oversight, and support for the museums—and you don't need previous museum or nonprofit board experience to be a great board member. What matters most is a commitment to our mission, a willingness to participate, and a desire to help the museums thrive.

What does a board member do?

Board members help guide the museums and ensure we have the resources and leadership needed to fulfill our mission. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership and oversight

  • Attending monthly Board meetings and participate in special events when possible

  • Helping to  set strategic direction and support the museums' long-term sustainability and growth

  • Reviewing and approving policies, budgets, and organizational plans

  • Helping the museums raise money and build support

  • Participating in fundraising activities and events

  • Using your personal and professional connections to help expand the museums' network of supporters

  • Bringing your skills and perspective to committee work and collaborate with other board members

Who we're looking for

We're looking for people who:

  • Care about preserving and sharing Issaquah's history

  • Communicate well and enjoy working collaboratively

  • Are willing to contribute their time and talents to the museums

  • Are or are willing to become members of the organization

Experience in any of these areas is especially helpful:

  • Fundraising and development

  • Financial management

  • Community outreach and marketing

  • Education and program development

  • Legal services

We're also committed to building a board that reflects the diversity of the community we serve. We welcome qualified applicants from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

What you stand to gain

Board service is an opportunity to do more than attend meetings. You'll have the chance to:

  • Help preserve an important part of Issaquah's history for future generations

  • Make a tangible contribution to a valued community institution

  • Develop leadership and nonprofit governance experience

  • Meet and work with other community leaders and professionals

  • Put your own skills, experience, and connections to work in a meaningful way
