Trolley Track Maintenance volunteers are responsible for the physical upkeep of the rail infrastructure. Responsibilities and duties include:
Routine inspection and replacement of wooden crossties, tie plates, and track spikes to ensure lateral and longitudinal stability.
Maintenance of standard 56.5-inch gauge and performance of surfacing and tamping to maintain proper crosslevel (levelness) and longitudinal profile.
Monthly inspection and adjustment of all track switches and turnouts to ensure switch points fit flush against stock rails and mechanisms operate properly.
Inspection of running rails for defects and the maintenance of all rail joints, including tamping spikes, tightening bolts and replacing compromised joint bars.
About the role
Qualifications
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor in an outdoor environment, including lifting, bending, and using hand tools like track wrenches and sledgehammers.
- Capacity to identify rail defects, loose joint bars, or compromised tamping and surfacing.
- Willingness to learn the specifics of track geometry, including gauge and levelness.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
