About the role
Become a specialist in our new exhibit, "Trailblazers," opening in mid-April. The new exhibit focuses on the group of Issaquah citizens responsible for preserving the Issaquah Alps (Tiger, Cougar, and Squak mountains) as we experience them today.
Museum docents are the first faces our visitors see when they enter the historic Issaquah Depot Museum. If you love meeting new people, spending time in historic spaces, making conversation, and learning about history while you’re at it, this is the volunteer opportunity for you. You’ll be responsible for:
Opening and closing the museum for its public hours (11am–3pm, Saturdays and Sundays)—in particular, during April, May, and June
Greeting and welcoming guests into the museum, which includes asking them to sign in and donate
Sharing stories and facts about Issaquah, our train depot, and early life in the Pacific Northwest—in particular, about the Trailblazers exhibit and Issaquah's historic grassroots conservation efforts
Operating the gift shop (a Square point-of-sale)
Overseeing general safety and tidiness of the museum
Expected commitment
4+ hours per month. Docents generally commit to at least one 4-hour shift per month, for a period of at least 1 year. For this specialist role, we are looking for docents who can front-load their commitment into the months of April, May, and June, and ideally continue on occasionally throughout the remainder of the year. This specialist role also includes a training/preview event with our collections manager specific to the Trailblazers exhibit.
Requirements
Background check for applicants 18+; 2 references. No prior experience required.
