commitment:

We ask docents to commit to at least one 4-hour shift per month. Docenting is a long-term commitment; we ask for applicants to commit to at least 1 year of docenting with us.

About the role

Docents are the first faces our visitors see when they enter the historic Issaquah Depot Museum. If you love meeting new people, spending time in historic spaces, making conversation, and learning about history while you’re at it, this is the volunteer opportunity for you. You’ll be responsible for:

  • Opening and closing the museum for its public hours (11am–3pm, Saturdays and Sundays)

  • Greeting and welcoming guests into the museum, which includes asking them to sign in and donate

  • Sharing stories and facts about Issaquah, our train depot, and early life in the Pacific Northwest

  • Operating the gift shop (a Square point-of-sale)

  • Overseeing general safety and tidiness of the museum
