Volunteer Spotlight: Ramya M.

Ramya M. joined Issaquah History Museums as a museum docent in May 2025.

Ramya M. has been volunteering with IHM since May 2025 as a museum docent and is beloved for her warm personality, sharp insights, and joyful interactions with our youngest museum visitors. We're so proud to know her—and to congratulate her on being college-bound this fall!

What's something that surprises (or surprised) you about IHM?

Something that surprised me about IHM is the community here! There are so many amazing volunteers who have put so much time and effort into making the museum run the way it does, and it is really inspiring to see how everyone works as a community!

What role does volunteering play in your life?

Volunteering helps with so many interpersonal skills, like communication, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving abilities while working with people from different backgrounds. It has also taught me empathy, responsibility, and the importance of giving back.

What makes Issaquah (or its surrounding areas) distinct from other places you've called home?

What makes Issaquah unique is the strong connection between its natural environment, history, and community. It is a place where people can appreciate the beauty of the surrounding mountains and forests while also learning about the stories and experiences that shaped the town. I admire how Issaquah preserves its past while continuing to grow, creating a community that values both tradition and progress.

What's something you love about your volunteer role with IHM?

One of my favorite parts of volunteering at IHM is talking to people and building connections. I enjoy making each interaction welcoming and memorable, whether it's having a meaningful conversation with a visitor, answering questions, or teaching someone about Issaquah's history.

If anything were possible, what's a wild idea you envision for the future of IHM?

I would love to see IHM create more field trips and partnerships with local businesses. These opportunities could help more people connect with Issaquah's history in a fun and interactive way!
